PLOS EveryONE Blog

The Project

What I Did

Results

The PLOS EveryONE blog, which highlights notable studies published in the Public Library of Science’s open-access journal, needed a more cohesive editorial identity. Posts varied widely in tone, depth, and structure, making it difficult to maintain consistent quality and effectively communicate research insights to a general audience. The challenge was to create an editorial strategy and style framework that would make complex scientific findings more accessible, engaging, and shareable, while boosting discoverability and readership.

As content strategist and editor, I audited existing blog content to identify gaps in readability, SEO optimization, and thematic consistency. Based on those insights, I developed a comprehensive editorial style guide and content creation playbook tailored to science communication. The guide included voice and tone principles, structural templates for research summaries, and keyword optimization best practices for academic topics. I also worked with editors, contributors, and researchers to align on the new standards and trained the writing team on simplifying technical concepts for non-specialist readers. To support visibility, I introduced metadata and tagging conventions that improved how articles were surfaced across the PLOS ecosystem and in search.

  • Implemented a unified editorial framework that improved content quality and brand consistency across all blog posts.

  • Increased organic traffic by 85% within six months of launching the new content strategy.

  • Boosted average time on page by 40%, signaling stronger engagement and comprehension among readers.

  • Helped the blog secure featured placements in Google News and academic content aggregators, expanding its reach to new audiences.

  • The editorial style guide became the standard reference for future PLOS content initiatives and was later adopted across several other journal blogs.
